Almost everything standing in Narva was built after the war. The centre is stone housing from the 1950s, around it later panel blocks, and the Kreenholm quarter is 19th-century industrial brick. In practice that means one stairwell repeats the same door types, and front doors are often steel doors fitted in the 1990s whose cylinder has already been replaced more than once. Before opening a door we check whether the lock has seized, worn out or been damaged by the wrong key — that decides whether a repair is enough or the cylinder is better replaced.

Frequently asked questions
Can a steel door fitted in the 1990s take a new cylinder?
Usually yes. These doors normally hold a euro-profile cylinder that can be changed on its own, without touching the lock case or the door leaf. The exception is the non-standard locks of that period, which we assess on site.
The key turns stiffly but the door still opens. Can it wait?
That is usually a warning that the lock is starting to bind. Working on an open door is easier and cheaper than working on one that has seized completely, so it is worth looking at early.
